Narc was first released in 1980, in the game you had a license to kill anyone and slowly clean up the streets of drug dealers until you reach Mr.Big the drug lord. In 2005 the game was remade to follow 2 cops (Jack Forzenski and Marcus Hill) that work for the NARC drug enforcement agency and fight against a new powerful drug, the liquid soul. Theres still some references to the original game.
The story isn’t interesting and the presentation its poor, with a poor quality video.
The game has some poor graphics, everything its very simple and repetitive, you will see entire crowds composed of the same pedestrians, the animations and movements are bad, exaggerated, the cities are pretty big and impressive, but the textures and shadow quality aren’t good enough.
The sounds are horrible, the voices are pretty bad and the scripts are awful, also it has some bugs and the sounds stay in a loop for a while, or sometimes its like every pedestrian starts to talk at the same time, and becomes unbearable.
Most part of the game involves missions and following a story in a free roam environment (like GTA), but all you have to do it’s to just hunt criminals down, and you can either choose to kill them or send them to jail.
You can see a lot of problems when it comes to shooting, its simple because it has auto aiming, but the camera it’s pretty loose and is slow to control, which makes the gameplay clumsy and heavy. When you nned to disarm and arrest the suspects, you have a series of movements and pretty interesting combos to do that. You can also do some special missions which are more difficult or walk around the city arresting drug dealers, beating anyone and confiscate their drugs.
The game has a police officer ranking that its affected by your behavior, if you arrest criminals, drop evidence at the station will rise your ranking, using excessive force, beating down civilians, using or selling drugs lower your ranking, it isn’t really a problem, you just have to keep it high (if you reach 55-60 you cannot do any missions until you raise it, if you reach 30 you will be thrown out of the agency, but you can still raise your ranking).
You can use drugs to have a better aiming, run faster, slow time down, but you can get addicted or have blackouts, to clean yourself you have to buy a pill to get rid of it.
The game also have some collectibles that are scattered around the city, if gather them all you unlock the original arcade game, kind of useless, and some are pretty hard to reach, you will have to explore for a while before you can reach them.
The game has a boring plot, poor quality videos, mediocre controls and a short story. It’s a game you only play if you have nothing to do (and you are ready to become frustrated), or you feel like you want to beat someone. (4/10)
