Hey guys, after an overly long hiatus I'm making a bit of a return. As such I figured it'd be nice to catch up as I haven't talked to a lot of you in ages and I know life has a tendency to take off.

So for my (brief) update, I'm more than halfway through my second year at Uni as a Biology and Computer Science dual major. It's a difficult and strange mix but I'm enjoying it. Currently I'm doing my second bout of research in Biology and in Comp Sci I'm in a game development class where my team and I are making an interesting version of Pokemon. I still play League of Legends as my primary game but I play Overwatch on the side now and again.

How have all of you been and what's been the big events in your lives recently?

I don't normally write down resolutions but I think they're a good idea, they definitely help give direction. Anyway these are mine for this year:
Try to get into the habit of waking up early, both so I can actually go to my lectures and so I have more time in the day. Go to the gym more, I for some reason purchased a 9 month pass so I may as well get my moneys worth. Start actually prioritising my university work. Actually stick to the budgets I create. Do more stuff to help other people (ik stuff is very general).

Get a frigging job and become financially independent. Read more about privacy. Switch to products that care about it. Get people to be aware of their choices and its consequences in the tech world, with regards to the said subject. Set up a Ghost blog and write a good, critical article once a month. Pay off my debt and don't overspend at all until that is paid!

Still stand by my suggestion... we need to start fresh with something fast, modern and light -- such as Discourse/Flarum. :/
I guess the two biggest issues are how it will be nearly impossible to move everyone there, and that connecting Minecraft servers to the forums would be a pain in the ass, if possible at all.

Days should be 36 hours long. So I can sleep 12 hours and still have 24 hours to work.

Yeah, my mornings are learning Angular 2, and the rest of the day is usually just studying and relaxing in between.
I do check JR every morning... and there is no new content. I'm with Chris on this one. I would post, but not necessarily create with how things are at the moment.

The thing with those wrappers is you can make 'Most Recent' your default feed, rather than the 'top news' Facebook forces on you. Still, it isn't going to help you with news feed sorting improvements itself, because that will still be decided by Facebook based on your interests and interactions.

Guess what guys, we are running 1.10, there has been a number of changes to JRCraft, I'm not going to list them all, but most of them have been performance updates, moderation updates.

Not everything is finished but we are close to it, everything seems stable

Chromium is a version of chrome that runs on linux. Mint is a Linux distribution that is a modified version of Ubuntu. Speaking of Mint I have switched from Xfce to Cinnamon thanks to Flaw and I prefer it!

What's Chromium, and what's Mint?  I'm currently using the slowest possible Windows 8.1 computer, which is my sister's laptop from 5 years ago... It's good enough for now though!
In other news, tomorrow two of my friends and I are doing a "minecraft marathon", playing from 8 in the morning onwards, until we beat the enderdragon! I'm really looking forward to it, and I'm hoping I can record the whole thing

Generally, the facebook app doesn't bring much to people anymore, instead of seeing what's happening with our friends around the world (which was its original purpose), the selective algorithms that give you only what you interact with makes it so that I only have Cyanide and Happiness comics, IFL Science articles, and Tech Insider stuff that is interesting, and some status updates from the same three people and my close friend's profile picture updates. It really sucks, since it's really lost its original purpose, and I feel that people who don't realise this change just eat their own thought-droppings, forming huge confirmation bias issues (actually, too much of the internet is like this, more about it in a blog).
I use messenger a ton though, and I find it nice, even if a lot of the features are just memory-occupying fanciness.
Do metal, or swipe or other apps allow for a real newsfeed, rather than the one facebook selects?

I really hate this in games... Thankfully, I haven't encountered this type of game in a long time, which I appreciate very much  I can imagine that MMOs, or other large-scale free games are among the common games that have "in-app purchases" (as I would call them), and I don't currently play games like that. It's honestly fine to pay for a game in my opinion, but with buying for in-game content, the game just becomes unfair to some that don't want to spend. (This is different, however, to things like Premium on JR, or even to membership on something like Runescape, where it's a simple one-time-buy, and you get access to new things, but it's not an increase in game performance or a time-saver, it simply allows for more gameplay.)

Yep, unbearably stupid. I played FUT maybe for a couple of months once in the last 4 years. I get why people love it, but I don't want to play an already buggy game with more annoyances in FUT.
If you don't want to work hard and take the long route, you simply pay some money and buy your way in. Still, at least, nothing is going to help you if you're just a terrible player...

Just thought I'd pitch in with a comment on FIFA since that seems to be mentioned here.
The main component of FIFA is FUT (FIFA Ultimate Team), where people buy and sell players and make a team around them and then compete with others. It also has micro-transactions which is a real money game for the developers and EA. All other game modes are more or less ignored.
Usually, it seems they glorify one or two aspect every year and move in that direction. Over the year, the game has become a lot more realistic, but I don't think they have much scope left in terms of further development. Obviously, they can still always push out smaller features and glorify them - which works for their target audience because of the pay-to-win model in FUT.
So, FIFA is very unlikely to see any real development because the devs know the game will sell every year (monopoly with licenses) and that kids will keep paying them money to try and win. Trust me, people waste tonnes of money on this. Tonnes!
