  1. So another post raised this question in my head. A lot of people fight to stop the NSA from monitoring your internet activity, or from companies selling your data to each other. This can be considered a violation of privacy, since your internet activity is meant to only be shared by you or with your permission.

I am quite conflicted on what I think on this topic. A great interview of Edward Snowden (which I could not find now :( ) made me consider taking my privacy more seriously, and ever since I have downloaded the Opera browser, with extra VPN add-ons and such, hoping to make it more difficult for my information to be thrown around. However, I still think of how this actually solves any problems at all. Sometimes, on the other hand, I get ads on youtube that I find great and I understand that they have been specifically targetted towards me. The other extreme is spotify, which tailors playlists to my tastes based on every song I've ever listened to on their service, and it works marvelously. It's a weird dilemma and I don't really know where I stand on it.

    What do you guys think?

Huge difference due to speed and battery life. The space is something to be desired though. BUt hey I got a new laptop which has both ssd and hdd :)

That's what I have, and I do find it really nice :) And then, I have an immense external hard drive, which is one further down the line, in terms of speed to storage space :P But each one has its use, between music, photo and video storage, games, etc, which is great ^^

It's more like a light tray in my case, usually its a transparent or semi transparent cuboid with a strong light source inside, usually used for tracing. I use I when I want to ink something but I value the pencil drawing too much to possibly ruin it if I make a mistake.

Ahh, makes sense. Then do you scan your work, or how do you get it digitalized? I'd imagine you could trace the sketch on a drawing tablet alternatively. And how come the pencil marks still make it through? (They appear on a few of the frames of the animations)

  4. I got a new laptop a few months back, and it's really doing me well! It's a Lenovo ideapad Y700, with very similar specs to your's. It's got the same graphics card, 16GB RAM, 500 GB HDD, 128 SDD, and an intel i7. On top of that, the cooling seems very on-point, a brilliant 4K resolution and wonderful built-in speakers. And after having a short, traumatic experience with Windows 8.1, I was very happy to find out that Windows 10 is much nicer (although there are already some things I hate about it compared to Windows 7 :P ).

This is how the pc looks:

It weighs a ton though, so I'm thinking through options for a portable, possibly unimaginably cheap laptop to bring to classes (coputer science classes). But for everything else, it's really great.

    Hey guys,

I'm thinking of upgrading my phone soon enough. I'm not getting a samsung as every samsung I have had has caused me grief. I have a One Plus 2, and might update to the one plus 3, What do you guys think I should do?

I have no clue for this kind of thing :P I'm an unoriginal loser with an iphone ;)

Sorry for not giving in input :P

  6. @SpencerCain I love the drafts of this pokemon-like game (Pixelated RPG I guess, Pokemon is the only one I've ever played)! I love this kind of drafting for any kind of project. Also, your pixel art still looks like something that could be in an animation or an indie game, it still looks pretty professionally made.

Also, wtf is that video!!?? It's magical and scary (and awesome, since it's by adult swim).. And I totally get the trippy effect from the motion blur

That gif you posted is from one of the first known uses of heavy, obvious smears in animation(the dover boys), mostly it's used to compensate for low budget since it with smears you need less frames to animate an action.

    (Late as hell reply)

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, since the smear is really obvious and at that point, unnatural, but it makes for a great example for the technique. I can imagine that it's a good way out of making less frames for an animation ^^

Going to the Norfolk broads on a boat for a week, won't be travelling faster than 6mph... get next to no signal there

that's frustrating! Hahah :) Maybe get a one of those sattelite-connected wifi routers for the trip, so you can catch all the magikarps! ;)

  9. Woah, I had never heard of this smear stuff, it looks amazing! I feel like this knowledge will come in handy some day in my life :P tumblr_me8kzrTDHg1riwl6fo1_500.gif

I looked it up some more, and it kind of reminds me of "motion blur" in video games, which I actually hate usually (the first thing I turn off it a game is lagging).

Anyways, once my programming skills get good enough, I'll be making pixel-based games, with which I will definitely look forward to making the art of! I've already made a pixel-based zombie survival game on the easy program Scratch, so I have some experience ;)

Keep posting stuff and making art! It's really awesome.

Don't go above 12mph otherwise it won't count towards hatching your eggs :)

Damn, looks like I'm gonna have to walk back to Japan once holidays are over, because airplanes are just too fast ;)

I have been diagnosed with cancer a month or so ago, been in and out of hospitial since, so i have not had time to play any games. Once I manage to get the operation done I will be going to uni for my second year so I will again be in and out of activity.

JRcraft is a good server and deserves activity. hopefully you guys will keep it sorted out and get activity back, i have some ideas on getting a few new players back ill post in the suggestions section soon

I'm guessing you're going to be ok, I really hope for the best for you. Stay strong! We'll be excited to hear about your ideas, and I'll be sure to remind you once you've gotten better!

  12. I personally haven't played it and am not planning on, but I love reading the news about the insane players who got stabbed, or crowds flooding places just to get some pokemon :P I also have enjoyed watching some of my friends play and especially seeing people in the streets play it! I think it's a great concept and definitely an amazing hype.

  13. Hey guys,

I've been gaming a bit lately, in a variety of games. I've played a point-and-click story game, an action shooter in single player, an MMO (I think?) hardcore survival game, a local multiplayer 'couch game', and some private multiplayer games, both story and non-story based. (Deponia (The Complete Adventure, and Doomsday), DOOM, Rust, Ultimate Chicken Horse, Left 4 Dead 2, and Garry's Mod).

I think after having played all of these, it's really a tough choice to pick which is the most fun. If I had to pick one, I think it would be 'Ultimate Chicken Horse', probably because of how much I love sitting next to friends and all playing on the one screen to play; it really brings so much fun, and you feel so connected to your friends.

However, I truly enjoyed games like Deponia, which is completely story-based, and is like watching a movie, but it still allows for an amazing experience and such a fun time. I also love games like Garry's Mod and Left 4 Dead because of the fact that I'm playing with my friends, which I always find enjoyable.

I'm sure there are many of other game types that you guys have played. What are your favourites, and why do you like them?

  14. I decided to make the best of something bothering me.

I love JR, and I love going on it, but I don't, which sucks. I'm sure it's the same with many of you; you're just doing other stuff, and JR doesn't come to your mind as somewhere to go to during an average day. In my case, I got a great laptop and I'm playing plenty of games (Rust and Left 4 Dead  with friends mostly, but also DOOM and Deponia by myself, with some occasional gmod and Ultimate Chicken Horse), and I'm also having an internship with a startup for a tourism website and application. I also do sports around every day. All this completes my day and annoyingly keeps me away from programming and JR, both JRcraft and JR Network (I'd still love to make the minecraft cover page though. One of you admins really should contact me for the ideal time to go online and get some saves).

So this topic, instead of feeling guilty about not being on JR, will let you tell us what you're up to! I guess it's normal that we don't go check JR regularly if noone posts, so let's reverse that and tell each other about what we're up to!

    What's keeping your mind busy?
