Kyle got a reaction from Jamie in What do you do in life?
I'm a student at Bristol, studying Computer Science. Aside from that, I do various work for the University, basically tricking unsuspecting sixth form students into thinking University is a good idea (jk, it can be a good idea). I also work part time tutoring A level maths. Outside of work stuff, I'm part of Bristol RAG which means I do a mix of promoting and helping them with events and also managing their website (badly :P).

I thought it'd be interesting to get to know the members a bit more. So tell us, what do you do in life?
Do you work, do you game, do you go to school?
I work full time at Harvey Norman as a sales assistant and technical advisor. With my free time I work on this here website. I play guitar and love music but I also like to game in my free time.

Kyle got a reaction from damsch12 in We need you! what game servers do you want at jr?
Over the last couple of years I've played games less and less (mostly due to time). One I have actually found time to play though is openTTD, not sure how most of their public servers work but could be a good one to look into. Whenever I've played it with friends (on a private server), it's been a really fun game to play.

Kyle reacted to  Mecmax in What do you think of privacy?
So another post raised this question in my head. A lot of people fight to stop the NSA from monitoring your internet activity, or from companies selling your data to each other. This can be considered a violation of privacy, since your internet activity is meant to only be shared by you or with your permission.
I am quite conflicted on what I think on this topic. A great interview of Edward Snowden (which I could not find now  ) made me consider taking my privacy more seriously, and ever since I have downloaded the Opera browser, with extra VPN add-ons and such, hoping to make it more difficult for my information to be thrown around. However, I still think of how this actually solves any problems at all. Sometimes, on the other hand, I get ads on youtube that I find great and I understand that they have been specifically targetted towards me. The other extreme is spotify, which tailors playlists to my tastes based on every song I've ever listened to on their service, and it works marvelously. It's a weird dilemma and I don't really know where I stand on it.
    What do you guys think?

I read the title and instantly, this video by the internet master CGP Grey came to mind:

I think I agree with pretty much all that is said in the video. What do you guys think?
This actually made me think of a slightly different topic. I'll put it in the forums.

There is a need for end to end encryption it guarantees us protection from any malicious party. Taking an extreme example of removing a dictator from power to be replaced with a democratic system. If end to end encryption had a backdoor political enemies could be eliminated by a rogue state, a resistance to an oppressive dictatorship crushed. Without encryption anyone can see what we're sending, having a backdoor means we may as well not be using encryption in the first place. I know my example is extreme but it applies to everyday situations so here's a more realistic example.
You send a message over WhatsApp to one of your friends with the dates for your holiday, which you belive to be safely encrypted . This message gets intercepted by a hacker who uses the backdoor to get the dates you're on holiday. Chances are they have your name as well, they can look up where you're registered to vote, what is legally your permanent residence. So it's likely where you're registered to vote is going to be empty while your away, the hacker can sell this information to someone who can break into your house and steal your stuff or do it themselves.

Yes it is a brilliant idea in one respect, security for business sense and personal sense is always welcomed. It stops people tracking your whereabouts, can help provide some safety as well.
Problem is for all the people who commit crime and horrible acts they have security too which I don't agree with. This topic will always be debated but without any form of encryption we would not be safe from the numerous hackers and script kiddies out there.

I basically just use PC now, don't game as much as I used to. If I do game it's normally casual games that you don't have to put much effort into, openTTD, Minecraft etc.

Yeah I have that exact problem with the battery - I've literally started bringing my charger to uni. I also got a portable charger for when I'm out, it's quite bad really It just about lasts if I don't bring a charger but if I wanted to stay later somewhere then it'd run out.
The only redeeming feature in terms of battery life is ultra power saving, even if I'm nearly out it adds on a significant amount extra.

My galaxy S6 just lost so much battery barely got through a day at school! I didn't really use fast charging with my s6 in the end because my plug broke and it was rated for different current and voltage than my other plugs. But the OnePlus 3T has an amazing battery life, and dash charging is so quick! The S6 is still certainly got a good enough spec to last a while apart from your battery is likely to get really bad. The 3T is definitely worth the price, camera doesn't really match up to other flagship devices but for the price I really can't complain
Edit: The camera on the OnePlus 3T is fine for taking pictures of my cats

I use a Galaxy S6, had one for about 2 years now (nearly) and never really had a problem. Fast charging is also a saviour sometimes (though it wouldn't be needed if the battery life was longer). I hope to keep my S6 for at least another 2 years, in the past I'd change my phone every 2 years but I don't feel like I need to atm.
My friend has had one (well I think it's the 3T) for a while now and really likes it. The fast charging is even better than anything I've seen before, it's a really decent phone. Definitely don't think you could get one that good for anywhere near that price with any of the bigger brands.

Share your game screenshots below. I guess those of us with more recent Nvidia cards have a bit of an advantage in some games due to Ansel
I'll start off with one of mine from The Witcher 3 and one from Mass Effect Andromeda. They may take a while to load as they are taken using the super resolution feature of Nvidia Ansel.

We have a JR Xbox Club and I'll be getting playstation organized soon enough. I don't want everything PC orientated so I'll be putting a link to our xbox club and other console groups soon. Unfortunatley there is no widget or API to show members in the club etc..
I do agree to open forums for the official console groups. Maybe if you want to open one for Xbox for now and a general section under a Console category in the forum?

We offer servers for PC users, because of this we seem to have become a vary PC orientated community site without meaning too, JR has always been (since I was around) a gaming community. Not, a PC gaming community site.
I propose to open the forums and possible some sectors of the site to the console community, offering a place for the users to congregate and communicate without introducing a messy merge of users.

Please note if the command requires parameters they aren't currently listed. You can do "/help [cmd]" in game to find out what each command does.
The groups are listed in ascending order from Tourist to Premium. Each group inherits what the group(s) below it can do.
    Server: Survival
    Group: Tourist
    Group: Citizen
    Group: Premium
    Server: Creative Currently Incomplete

It seems we can not self host a server for Discord. There is no support for it currently and doesn't look to be for the future it's hosted on the Discord public servers.

But anyway, here as wanted is our discord server, official server that is! https://discord.gg/ZABkBWV

I see JR has a teamspeak and mumble server but the new thing now is discord, free easy to use, easy to set up permissions. I am just throwing it out there that JR gets a discord channel then I know for me I would be on that alot more and can get to talk to people a lot more.

Kyle got a reaction from  Flaw in Your New Year Resolutions
I don't normally write down resolutions but I think they're a good idea, they definitely help give direction. Anyway these are mine for this year:
Try to get into the habit of waking up early, both so I can actually go to my lectures and so I have more time in the day. Go to the gym more, I for some reason purchased a 9 month pass so I may as well get my moneys worth. Start actually prioritising my university work. Actually stick to the budgets I create. Do more stuff to help other people (ik stuff is very general).

    Hey guys  Happy new year
What are you all looking forward to in 2017?
For me I can't wait to finish school it's just become boring for me. My most anticipated game release of this year is definitely Mass Effect: Andromeda, I have become a massive fan of the series and judging from the gameplay already released it's gonna be the strongest in the series for combat mechanics. My brother also surprised me with tickets to go to heroes & villains fan fest in London for both days, I still can't believe that I'm going
I'm also looking towards my family holiday this year, we're spending 10 days on the Norfolk broads right after the end of my exams. There is something about spending time on the broads that is relaxing, relatively disconnected from the world. Also get to spend time with my parents and brother and it's completely different to when we're at home as we're more relaxed than usual so it's nice and refreshing for all of us.

    Hey guys,
As the title suggests. What are your new years resolutions. Do you think they are a good idea?
    Mine are as follows:
Get back here and start working on it at least once a week Sort my time management out at home as well as at work Work out more Go out different places and see the world with my misses Have more time to myself and have fun including gaming sessions Either progress in my role in work or leave the job and find a new job Stop trying to help everyone all the time and just focus on me a bit Try and start a blog of my life and what happens each day and post it on JR. Also try and record music with the equipment I have (I've had it for ages just too shy to record music) DO my washing once a week instead of every two weeks (and have to do a shit load) Save more, Get a new car by the middle of this year and possibly move house again? So what's your resolutions guys. I gave ten because I think I can do these you don't have to give 10 but I'm very adamant at doing these.
