  1. As you guys know our ARK servers are constantly resetting after reboots. This seems to be due to a corrupt ARK map and on update / restart it resets the map randomly. I need ideas on how to resolve this issue with you guys, I do not want to reset the map or take off mods but to stop all this happening it may have to be the case. The main problem we have is that the map highly revolves around Structures Plus and Small Resource Stacks. If we remove these mods a lot of structures will be lost and all items will be lost due to the way the small resource stacks works. I have a funny feeling that something is conflicting. I can't diagnose or find this out due to the following: ARK has crap linux support All our servers are linux, we can not afford more servers ARK has no logging for linux servers in any way. I feel that the best plan of action is the following: Remove all mods, entirely. Reset all maps, clean out game save files to ensure nothing corrupted stays Have a huge supply drop for our members that have stayed at JR to compensate. The drop will be the same to ensure that people will start at the same level. Gift 5 dinos to each player that has played on our ARK servers for more than 2 hours (we can check due to our JR Website logs) Add one mod a week to see if it causes a problem, we will only use tried and tested mods with a high rating. While I have this plan it may or may not take place, I want your view. The community. How would you feel starting again? It would mean that everyone would be able to find new land, it may draw more players on to the server, resources would be once more balanced and we would all be happier with a stable server. I hate that our server is stable all day but then when it updates due to the corruption it resets the map and peoples things get lost and we look like the bad party. We want to do the best for you guys at JR. If you have any other ideas please let me know, don't be quite. SPEAK UP! I want everyones view as this is a huge decision and while I understand some members will be upset at the thought of loosing everything. It's something I do not want to have to do but I feel that this resetting bug has gone on long enough. We just want our community happy in the long run. We can't keep patching over problems, I'm not going to lie, I don't have another solution that I can think of right now, this would 100% sort the issue I'm sure. Again let me know what you think, please!
  2. Came across StartIsBack last night; thought I'd share it here. It's an excellent replacement for the Windows 8/8.1/10 start menu. My start menu feels fast again, and definitely easier to use. Not sure what Microsoft's UX team was thinking with the start menu they have. Have fun!
  3. Microsoft have announced that they will start limiting how many more people can join the Xbox One Preview Program since it has reached a “near-capacity level”. Microsoft posted on the Xbox Forums that the huge surge in applications, helped on by Backwards Compatibility and Xbox to PC streaming, has been a strain on the system. Xbox One Preview Program Manager Emily Hanson said in the forum topic: “Due to a tremendous response from our fans, the Xbox Preview program has reached a near capacity level. With that in mind, we are slowing the number of new people we are accepting to optimize for testing. We are thankful for the amount of interest we’ve received to date and look forward to sharing more details on preview opportunities soon.”
  4. Okay, so I just watched the Xbox conference and the Xbox One reveal yesterday and I can't believe what I just watched, and yet I'm not surprised. Every gaming company now is always making the wrong decisions, though it may not be EVERY single gaming company there is today, most ones like EA and MS are messing up their games like there's no tomorrow. They're both corrupted by a lust for money and a greedy team of developers. Most of the Xbox One is focused on TV.. Why? So we can basically watch TV on our TV? Useless I say. Utterly useless. NONE of the damn thing is focused on Gaming, but on TV and other sections of entertainment. Skype=Cool. TV=Eliminates use for TV's, again more ideas for money so people can buy Xbox One's instead of actual TVs themselves. Internet=Eliminates use for computers Also, fees for playing previously owned or preowned games? What the hell is wrong with these people?? I swear to God MS. I'm off.
  5. In case any among you are not yet aware, there is a new game that is going to be released on Steam tomorrow (September 14th; link is to the app page on Steam), and it is (in my opinion) brilliantly amazing! Its called "FTL: Faster Than Light", and it is a space game in which you command a ship. Instead of the average 'fighter' style spaceship game however, FTL does a nice job of making it seem more like a game of SimCity. TotalBiscuit has done a play-through (see video below) and simultaneous review of FTL, and he says that it "feels like a game of XCOM at times (the original, not the remake)". Basically you are carrying data that is vital to the remaining Federation fleet. You have to make it past a bunch of galaxies to deliver this data safely, and the Rebels are in constant pursuit from behind you (so you can't take your time and explore every sector to the max). Each time you warp to a new sector you meet a random encounter; its sort of like D&D in that each encounter is slightly randomized and when (read: IF) you win each battle, you gain a bit of 'scrap', which can be used a currency and use that to purchase upgrades for your ship (from a menu, only for things like power and performance) and equipment (such as new weapons) when you come across shops. I personally will be looking to buy this as soon as I'm able (it only costs $10 USD), but I am a sucker for games like this (XCOM or SimCity based games)... XD UPDATE: The game will be on sale at 7am September 14th, EST. Technically today for me, but it may/may not be depending on where you live. :3 Also, it says here that the game will cost $9.99 USD on Steam, GOG.Com, and their website (depending on how you would like to purchase it), and that there will be a 10% discount for the first week that it is out! (I do not know if the quote of $9.99 USD includes this discount and it will go up later, or if it will only be ~$8.99 USD for the first week and then be $9.99 USD after; I only know it says there will be a discount for the first week)
  6. Yesterday Microsoft released the public beta for Windows 8. Check it out here Windows 8 is compatable with tablet devices as it is designed to run with low power microprocessors. Apple also released a preview of their new operating system "Mountain Lion", which I will not be commenting on because MAC's are over-rated and over-priced.

    Windows 7 Troubleshoot

I'm writing a project for my computer studies course and part of this requires me to give the pros and cons of Windows 7. Now, if you used vista, its not hard to find a few reasons. but here is one reason that I came up with and one I actually find a problem with all windows OS. I added this as a pro since it is an improvement. There is a poll above and post below whatever you think is appropriate.
